The Dreaded Dress Code!

Ping! An email has arrived reminding j2 of the black-tie dress code for next week’s “Events Industry Night of Nights” and hereby prompting another ‘fashion-panic’ post on our event planning blog.

Just under one week remains until the 2013 Australian Event Awards gala on 19th November at Sydney’s Doltone House, and j2 ideas & events can’t wait to learn who is going home as Event Manager of the Year. (If you didn’t know already, our Brisbane events management company is one of four category finalists!)

Yet excitement over the prospect of winning appears outweighed by dressing etiquette worries...again! (I refer to our mid-year “I have nothing to wear!” post).

A frenzy of dress code debate has ensued in the j2 office. We’re more anxious about fashion faux-pas than helping our fearless leader script a one-minute ‘just-in-case’ acceptance speech. Present planning involves one of us in a black tulle meringue-esque ball gown. Over the top? Another has readied a delicately patterned floor length dress in hues of greens and blues, but worries it is not formal enough. A third has purchased a figure-hugging black silk and lace gown online (fortunately it’s a perfect fit) and the fourth of our entourage is planning a timeless Audrey Hepburn look in a below-the-knee black evening dress. Quite a mix!

What constitutes black-tie these days? We’d really like some certainty! We’ve checked a few “decoding the dress code” blogs, two stand-outs being from the Awards host venue Doltone House and another by Lifestyle YOU.

Talk about 50 shades of black tie! We’re confused. The rules seem to have relaxed on this class of garb. The last thing we want is to be either out-dressed or over-dressed on the occasion. So I am throwing this out there for your tips. What would you recommend our team wear to the Awards next Tuesday night?

xx
